This limited-edition split cassette, released on February 15, 2020, by Game Two Records (catalog ID: GT-38), features Denver, Colorado’s sludge/doom metal band Deer Creek and their collaborators Ice Troll. Limited to 300 copies with exclusive full-color 5-panel artwork by Paul Vismara, this is Game Two’s first cassette release in over 25 years. Deer Creek’s side delivers four tracks of dismal doom: “Shitcanned Drunk” and “Unburden My Soul” from their Quisling sessions, “Millennium,” and a 2008 cover mash-up of Count Raven and Rotors to Rust titled “Jen’s Motorworld.” The band—Paul Vismara (guitar, vocals), John Deer (drums), Conan Hultgren (guitar), and Stephanie Hopper (bass)—offers their signature heavy, downtuned sound. Ice Troll, featuring members of Never Kenezzard, Mondo Obscura, and New Ancient Astronauts, contributes two hypnotic, instrumental space-rock tracks: “Celestial Forge” and “Elder Currents.” Recorded at various studios, this cassette is a collector’s item for fans of doom, sludge, and cosmic rock.
